Modem 56K to Modem GPRS
Hy,
i have a PC (PC_A) Linux Embedded sistem (with arm linux) with a modem GPRS. In this system there is a pppd demone and a getty program (only getty)! The second PC (PC-B) is a linux PC(debian lenny ) with a 3com usrobotic 56k modem. I want to connect PC-B directly to PC-A. I had test to connect with minicom calling from PC-B the PC-A with AT command and the connection is OK, but i dont view the connection in route table. I want to know how i must to connect the PC-B to PC-A? I must to transfert a small file from PC-A to PC-B. thanks.... |
Good question.. I'v always wondered how to use a modem(s) as a regular network device.. locally..
Which is what I gather you are trying to do? The only thing I could suggest.. even tho I have never researched it much.. is to have a server setup on the side you want to dl info from.. like an ftp server.. Good luck.. lettuce know.. |
sorry.. double post by accident :(

hy,
the problem is not the server to trasmit file. My problem is that i establisced a connect between two PC if I use minicom but my connect do not create a route entry in the route table. So i dont to transfert the file. thanks |
Maybe try another program.. mgetty? or use bluetooth to transfer the file? or wammu?
Why is it important for the the pc-a to show up in the routing table? This seems like more of a 'direct connect' than a regular modem or network situation.. no? |
hy,
the problem is that che PC-A is an embedded PC with ARM linux! There isn't ugetty! There are only getty e pppd. the second problem is that i must call from PC-B ... because i must change the time when i create a connection (i can't use cron to create the connection from PC-A to PC-B)! thanks |
I know you can do Packet Radio over an RS 252 connection and you can do Packet radio over a wireless 2G network, but it seem like you would need to do some conversion to get the two networkds to talk together.
Do you have a GPRS driver of some sort for the US Robotics Modem to make it 2G compatible |
There seems to be some confusion here. Mobile network operators generally do not provide a GPRS <-> public telephone network gateway, Internet connections are provided via GPRS.
You can either use GSM circuit switched data (not GPRS) to a dial-up modem, or a GPRS Internet connection to some other Internet connection, which could be dailup connection. If you want a circuit switched connection you can use chat and pppd together. |
