Method Not Allowed: The requested method POST is not allowed for the URL /writedhcp.p

Hi all,

I recently installed Apache 1.3.28 and PHP on a new machine. I have it already running on another machine where everything is working very good.

However, on the new machine I created a webpage to uses PHP. Whenever I try to POST something I get a webpage saying:

Method Not Allowed: The requested method POST is not allowed for the URL /writedhcp.php3

In my index.htm file, I write: <form action="../writedhcp.php" method=post>

In my writedhcp.php, I jus write some values to a text file.

I have googled and searched on Linux Questions, but all of the proposed methods do not work for me. Also, my httpd.conf file is working on my other PC correctly with PHP. Did I do something wrong? Is Apache and PHP installed properly?

Thanks for all the efforts.

WiWa

# some cases the two character 'Language' abbreviation is not

# Note 3: In the case of 'ltz' we violate the RFC by using a three char

### Section 3: Virtual Hosts
#
# VirtualHost: If you want to maintain multiple domains/hostnames on your

# IP addresses. This is indicated by the asterisks in the directives below.
#
# Please see the documentation at <URL:http://www.apache.org/docs/vhosts/>
# for further details before you try to setup virtual hosts.
#
# You may use the command line option '-S' to verify your virtual host
# configuration.

#
# Use name-based virtual hosting.
#
#NameVirtualHost *

#
# VirtualHost example:
# Almost any Apache directive may go into a VirtualHost container.
# The first VirtualHost section is used for requests without a known
# server name.
#
#<VirtualHost *>
# ServerAdmin webmaster@dummy-host.example.com
# DocumentRoot /www/docs/dummy-host.example.com
# ServerName dummy-host.example.com
# ErrorLog logs/dummy-host.example.com-error_log
# CustomLog logs/dummy-host.example.com-access_log common
#</VirtualHost>

Well I found it extremely worthwhile.

I just had this problem. This thread was the first one that came up in Google. His answer fixed my problem.

I understand that answering someone's question from three years back is no help at all to the original poster. But isn't part of the purpose of a forum to also help whoever might find it? This thread is still alive and kicking on Google after years. His answer helps anyone that finds this forum through search engines.

As long as the answer works and the problem is something that can still come up, does it really matter that the original question was years old, especially since it wasn't answered before his post?

I'm pretty happy that he posted three years later.

I would like to thank the person that answered this question. I know it was answered three years late and that was in 2007. However, I still found it useful even today in the far future of 2009. This is the first page that comes up when you google this problem and any moderator should be glad that they are getting traffic even on old threads.

Thanks vijaymodi_81 for the answer. I found this forum 1st on google ("The requested method POST is not allowed for the URL") and I don't really care if the problem was discovered 10 years ago or yesterday, as long at it has a solution, I found it and it works.

acid_kewpie, I respect your work (and I understand you are upset on a user posting links...), but you should maybe focus more on helping. After all, isn't this the scope of a forum: answering questions of others and having your questions answered?

Nope not spam, just trying to help you understand that these posts help many people for years to come (like the other people were trying to point out "realwahl", "eboyd16", "susb8383") and to thank vijaymodi_81.

open your mind.

I felt the need to SAY somethinge because, the answer that the moderator berated above... fixed my issue in under 30 seconds of searching.

I'd like to know how the moderator feels the response to the post that answered a question that wasn't closed... violated the rules of this site?

This is atypical of moderators on quite a few sites who have nothing better to do than to go around and trounce of people for doing good. They figure it is their job. Since there is NO specific rule listed ( see below ), this would seem to indicate:

1) the moderator doesn't understand the rules,,,, or
2) the moderator needs to UPDATE the rules.

The original poster did NOT violate the rules so I would expect that the moderator simply say NOTHING.

•Flame Wars will not be tolerated.
•Do not post if you do not have anything constructive to say in the post.

•Do not post the same discussion in more than one forum. Duplicate discussions can be frustrating for other members. Try and pick the most relevant forum for your post. If you are unsure put it in Linux - General.
