how can i set up a cluster ???
i have two computers , one`s a P4 1.8 with 256 MB RAM, 40 GB HDD, and the other`s a compaq presario (Cyrix M2 300) with 96 MB RAM and a 10 GB HDD..i have only one monitor, connected to the P4..
the P4 is running RedHat 9, win98 and winXP the cyrix has only win98 i have them networked using a cross-over cable, and i had been using both PCs together with the help of realVNC till now (i.e, sice wednesday, when i set up the network :-) ) i wanted to know more abt Beowulf clusters..can i set one up with the hardware iv got?? and can anyone give me some URLs where more info can be found abt all this, BASICS and FUNDAMENTALS ? and where can i download the reqd. software? thanx in advance |
maybe you could look into OpenMosix and here is the direct link to the HOWto..
and below i will put a couple other links : doc about setting up a cluster PDF file of the Cluster HOWTO |
Linux Central has a Scyld Beowuld CD for sale for only a few bucks. It's an excellent start for anyone interested in Beowulf clustering. I set up a 13-node cluster using this software in minutes.

woow unless u know how to program a parallel virtual machine, or program for a parallel execution unit there is no point in hell thinking about a cluster. there is no point it is of no use to u and most of all the over head would probably be more high then the performance gain of 2 machines.
Either way get another monitor and have a dual head system with 2 computers. I programmed on one before i got a dual head card and via a network it was really good. |
