MDK 10.1 + SpeedStream SS1022 USB difficulties

Hopefully, this is just something I'm overlooking. I'll freely admit to still being a bit of a novice with Linux even though I've been using it for years.

Here's the problem:

I've got a Siemens SpeedStream (model SS1022) USB wireless LAN adapter under Mandrake 10.1. Now, the system clearly knows what the SpeedStream is because it automatically loaded the prism2_usb driver, according to MCC.

The network configuration also shows that it is trying to use the SpeedStream for net connectivity. But for some reason, the system doesn't seem to want to connect to the AP, which is about 3 feet away.

The AP is a Linksys which is I have confirmed is *not* set to 802.11g only. So my 802.11b gear should be able to access it. Any ideas why this might be happening?
