Max Static Routes?

I'm running Mandrake 10.1, and trying to find out if there is a maximum number of static routes i can have?

We have 20 at the moment, and don't seem to be able to add more - we've tried using webmin and it just throws a bit of a wobbly, and nothing goes into the routes list.

Hope you can help

That sounds like a limitation of Webmin, not of Linux's routing capability. Try running

ip route add dev eth0

and see if it gives you any problems. That network isn't in use on the greater internet, so it shouldn't introduce any major routing issues if it works.

As an aside, if you're trying to maintain that many static routes, consider setting up a dynamic routing daemon like Quagga. It should easily scale to 20 or more routes using OSPF or BGP. If you have any experience with Cisco hardware, you should have no problems.

we can add routes manually..

'ip route add via dev eth0'

it works, and is listed when doing a

'route -n'

but when the network is restarted/reloaded, the route disappears again.

Obviously a network restart happens if/when the server is rebooted, so unless i'm doing something else wrong...
