Mapping network interfaces

I've got a linux PC with two network cards (ne2k-pci and via-rhine), which are both PCI cards. I want to compile the drivers into the kernel. My problem is, I don't have any way to control which driver is mapped to eth0 and which one is mapped to eth1. Is there any way to give some bootparameters to control this ? My research didn't lead to anything useful

Any hints are really appreciated,
thanks, randall

I didn't find a way to work it out with /etc/modules.conf, since the drivers are hard-compiled in and modules.conf is only useful with modules.
