So I just installed a dual boot Mandriva One system, Im a linux noob so bear with me please. Basically Mandriva says that Ethernet is connected, with its little icon in the corner, But when I try to navigate to a webpage, It will not load, Heres my setup.
Computer---------------->Linksys WRT54G Version 4 (Local ip 192.168.1.1) --------------------> Actiontec GT701(Local IP 192.168.0.1) -----(Phone Line) || So basically thats my setup. Now I have already tried navigating to 192.168.1.1, Everything seems in place, It recognizes my computer etc. I can navigate to 192.168.0.1 and everything seems in place, Except the DCHP table doesnt list my computer which It normally does under windows. So basically Its a problem with the Actiontec I believe, I back this up with the fact I disconnected from my Linksys, and plugged directly into my actiontec router, I could no longer navigate to 192.168.0.1 , Andy help would be appreciated.
I would guess that you don't have dhcp configured on your nic in mandriva. Try opening a console and running:
$ su
<enter root passoord>
# dhclient eth0
Note any error messages you get with the above. If it goes, try connecting to the internet. If that works, post back and I can show you how to make the changes permanent.
No It didnt work, It gave no error messages either. When I open up the Configuration Console, It says im using dhclient anyway. I dont know what the problem is, Its kinda wierd
As root run the following commands in a console and post their output:
# ifconfig
and
# route
Also, post this network configuration file:
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
That's a wireless router but I assume from your post you're hardwired into one of its ethernet ports. To explain: ifconfig will give you some basic network info similar to ipconfig in windows; route will give the network routing table, in particular I'm interested in how the gateway is configured; and ifcfg-eth0 is the basic network configuration file, this is the file that is automatically edited when you change settings in mandriva control center.
My best guess now is the gateway has not been properly setup but the above will show for sure.
WOW, that was a great answer! Would really like to see the answers to the questions, so we <the curious> can know the rest of the story. Please, Friends, show YOUR data.
