Mandriva 2006 won't join network and can't ping itself.

Hi, thanks for reading.

I have a 3 hour old install of Mandriva 2006, and in getting the web and samba servers working, I seem to have tweaked the network somehow.

I changed the hostname, and the server uses DHCP from my router.

From other computers on the network, I know I am partially on the network, because I can see my samba share from my Windows 2K box. If I try to ping it by ip address or network name, I get a timeout though.

From the Mandriva server, I can't ping it from itself, either by hostname or ip address, but if I type the hostname into a browser, I get "It Works!" which I guess is the default apache install.

Any ideas? Could it be some sort of firewall or network setting that says don't respond to anything? I notice there is now a firewall setting in MCC, but I set it to allow anything in, since I handle the security through my router and need other machines on the same network to be able to connect.

To see the routing on the box, do route -n in a console terminal.. and ifconfig

Make sure the firewall is off, do /etc/init.d/iptables clear

If the ip numbers all match, then make sure the dhcp number is allocated for at least 7 days from the router, = 604800 secs

Make sure the Mandy box can ping outward, then check it can be pinged.
