Hi!
i am quite the newbie, even though i have read the How to and
the manual (the manual is barebone on the network/internet portion) i still have a question to offer:
can someone offer a little advice on mandrake's single network
firewall?
i am lucky to live in hawaii, where ethernet is the norm, and so
i am behind a linksys router/switch (4 port) in order to share
internet access to a roomate. the linksys has DHCP server
enabled and both mandrake 8.0 and w2000 can access the
internet yet i am stumped by mandrake snf
so really i guess i am trying to put SNF inbetween 2 LANs-one somewhat secure and the wild internet on the other
the thing is dhcp doesnt seem to work and neither just picking
from the apparantly safe range of 192.168.1.2 to .254
because the LAN network from the router is 192.168.1.1
at the proxy screen i have tried saying ok to nothing in the fields
to also having tried hitting cancel
at one point, i could access the local LAN from w2000 to the
http screen on the linux box, but have since lost that since
trying another combo and not writing down exactly
what i had---rats! now no lan access
i have installed this distro now close to 20 times with no
success and the web is coming up short of info this time
