Question Mandrake DNS problems

I have just installed a mandrake box on my home network for web and ftp service. It connects thru a win 98 box running winproxy as a software router.
I can connect to the webserver from the web no problem,
I can ping the mandrake box address from local and global no problem.
all in all ip connectivity is all good on the network.
I can accrss the web from the linux box only if I use the ip, DNS seems to be non functional. the linux-mandrake site is down so no access to docs.
How do I set the DNS search for the linux box??? (there seems to be a lack of dns setup in the mandrake install)
Can it be done from the GUI?
I need major hand holding if it needs to be done from the command line or shell
or is it not a linux problem at all?

oy!
