mandrake 9 webmin file permissions

hello, i'm currently running Mandrake 9 and i'm able to share out my linuxbox within my workgroup, but i'm having trouble with the file permissions...

i had it working once before with mandrake 8.1, but i have no idea how i fluked out... and cant remember

i have 2 machines, windows xp and windows 2k, and i've shared out some folders in mandrake... i've given each windows machine a username/pass on mandrake according to each of their logins on their own machines...

on mandrake, the windows machines have no problem accessing their /home/<user> directories but when I make a share for a different folder, i just cant get it to give write permissions! and yes write is turned on, but it always says "access denied".

just this part eludes me, and i'm using webmin, because i cant find swat! it gives me some sort of connection error if i try port 901 in the browser.

i'm sure its just a simple setting to put in the permissions, but i just cant seem to nail it, any help would be great, thanks

figmentium,

just read ur post, seems samba is certianly a worn out point!

just with ur directories that u are sharing try enabling all permissions for everyone ie chmod 777, then work backwards from there if it works, to restrict access!

PS webmin is good for some aspects but...i would definitley just spend some time reading the comments and checking out examples of the smb.conf.
Front ends are great, but they should not be a subsitute, merely an additional tool!
anyway.......

ed.
