i told you everything i know because that is what i know...
for number one... i have a PC with a AMD Athlon K size chip 1.333 ghz, 512 mb ddr ram, 32 mb GeForce 2 vid card, Sound Blaster Live, USB ZipDrive Burner... those are the only things i have attached along with of course a hard drive and a floppy drive... the hardrive is a WD 19 GB hard drive 5200 RPM.... thats all the info i know of on my computer... i do have a nic card but i didnt have it in on installation nor after did i ever put it in...i tried it before because ive installed both OS many times ... and both find it but redhat has trouble with it and mandrake finds it but still cant connect... so i use RedHat 9.0 to connect and if i get enough information i reinstall mandrake and try out the solutions and see if it helps... but so far nothing...
for number 2... they provided me with the cd's and the modem along with the cable to connect the modem and a cad 5 cable for one connection... i think they would understand that someone out there would use the usb on there modem or else it wouldnt be there.. plus i read about it and found out its a winmodem but linux supports a lot of winmodems and the linux's i use are supposed to be supported according to what i read... the modems info is above (all i know i mean) it displays the light on both mandrake 9.1 and redhat 9.0 but redhat is the only one to connect...
for number 3... i explained above i think... but if i didnt, the hardware was found on both OS but on Mandrake it finds the Ambit modem but it doesnt have a modulator or something... and it places it under the unknown devices. Redhat finds everything fine BUT for some reason redhat is really glitchy on me and i have noooo idea why... redhat cant connect to my cd's id or whatever and says it will have errors running gnome, but still connects to the internet... plus it randomly restarts, logs me out causing me to log back in (which happened while typing this once), and sometimes logs me into the dos based setting, or sometimes just freezes on me....
for number 4... they find everything but mandrake wont connect...
for number 5... i tried once but it wouldnt allow me for somereason... so i just go through the tedious installations between the two when i get enough info online with redhat ill install mandrake clearing my hardrive and installing it according to the installation... and then try to fix accordingly... but if it didnt work ill uninstall it reinstall redhat and connect asking for more info...
sorry that im a total newbie to this.. to tell you how much of a newbie i am, it took me a week to figure out how to log into root.... so sorry if im being rude during this its just im very irritated about this matter and really want to use mandrake linux... and not redhat if its so glitchy....
