Mandrake 9.1 Connecting to Internet Through Router


Heyas,

I have a small network at home, my box has Mandrake 9.1 and is connected to a Linksys router. The router has a cable modem plugged into it which both of the computers can connect to from Windows.

From Mandrake I can ping the router, the other computer(Win98), and my own box. However, when I run any browser I still cannot connect to the internet. I have tried doing : route add default gw 192.168.1.1
And then added this to my /etc/resolv.conf: nameserver 192.168.1.1

However, I still cannot connect to the internet. When I type route in the terminal I get this: (maybe it can help?)

That was after I had to: su root

Any help would be appreciated.

can you browse by IP? Perhaps you are having DNS issues.

Is your IP address that you get from your ISP static or dhcp?

If you can ping all computers on the network then they are setup correctly. Sounds like that the router is not able to communicating with the ISP. If you have just added the router to your network, you may need to turn your modem of for a couple of minutes, or better still there should be a small hole on the back of modem to reset to default settings use a paper clip. If you had the modem connected to a netword card previously it still may have the MAC address from the netword card in memory still and it needs to be cleared first. You may need to do the same for the router.
