I am using mandrake 8.2, and I set up my isp using the control center internet connection module.
Two days ago it would connect and I could browse the web for a while, but after a while the modem would still be connected but I would not be able to transfer any data in or out. If I would disconnect and reconnect it would work again.
Yesterday and today I have tried to connect and it will dial, connect, and login, but I can not transfer any data. I can not even ping any web sites that are on the internet. Any ideas what the problem is?
I ran the route command and it didn't show any of the networking interfaces, and it made the labels for the columns, but it didn't show any interfaces at all, and I had to ctrl-C to stop the route program.
After this I ran the network connection module in control center again and set up my isp again. I tried dialing and I was able to use the internet again, it worked. After doing this I did the route command again and it showed eth0, eth1, and ppp0, with ppp0 being the default interface.
After a while I was unable to use anything on the internet, it was the same problem as before. I couldn't even ping an ip. I did the route command again and it did the same thing as the first time I ran it. It made the labels of the columns but didn't show any interfaces, and I had to ctrl-C to exit it.
The routing and gateways are all set to automatic, as they should be. An addition to my second post above is that route does not actually freeze, it just takes a really long time to print out the routing information. ppp0 is still the default, but no packets seem to get through...
Also, I'm pretty sure it's not the isp's fault because I'm accessing the same isp right now with a windows box and have not had any similar problems on this box.
