Making a Linux PC join a Windows 2003 domain
Well, im quite new to linux, and installed a Linux Pc in my office.
My office has a working windows 2003 server with a domain which handles like 40 computers, and each of them are linked to the router though ethernet connection. I am using fedora core 3, and i am having some problems in entering the domain I go to Networking, and set the ethernet card settings, i put the subnet mask, the router ip adress, and the ip When I insert the IP and try to activate it i get an error messge which tells me that the chosen IP adress is already in use by the other pcs in the server. However this is not, because i have accurately checked the server and the free Ips given by the other Pcs, and i have understood that the problem is because the windows domain "TAKES" as his all the ip range inside its router, and does not allow to the linux one to use them how can i overcome this?? thank you |
is there a DHCP server on the network??
if so configure the Linux box to receive a ip address automatically |
obviously thats the first thing i tried......
but when i do that the "activate eth0" box says "waiting ip from server" and then after 2 minutes goes in timeout... and im also sure we got the dhcp on the server |
the linux firewall might be blocking out the DHCP server , enable the DHCP on the linux machine then from a terminal run "service iptables stop" then try activing the device
|
i tried to do as you suggested, flagging the "get ip from dhcp server" option, and quitting iptables ...
however it just goes on "determining ip information for eth0........" and then in timeouts and fails.... any one know why the damn windoze server is closing all ip options for me?? :newbie: :Pengy: |
