make internet connection in ubuntu 8.04

i have installed ubuntu8.04 in my pc.Window xp and fedora8 is also installed in my system.I have not worked much in ubuntu but in fedora.
after installation i just want to make network connection by using commad "neat" but not working in ubuntu.Then i tried using GUI instead of command line and make an a connection to connect my college LAN.

But i still not able to connect to internet.Please suggest me what should i do.In window xp and fedora8 i can access net....Help me

In Ubuntu, the tool is "Network manager". It should be easy to find on your desktop (either Gnome or KDE), and it is documented here:
