Make eth card not to send harware info

Hi All!

I'm a noobie here so forgive me if my question is rediculous...

My problem is that I have an onboard nVidia ethernet card, which worked fine until about a week ago. Now I can't reach the net... I have been told, that this is because my card sends its harware info (serial number or something like that) and since I have been using the net for free (somehow) now I not allowed to reach it anymore. I was told that since I use DHCP , the only data what identifies me is the hardware info of my card. The question is that :
Is there any way to told my card not to send those info (or send some random/fake info) ?

Can anyone help me with this?
Any solution of the problem would be appriciated.
Thanx.

Hello,

this is the normal behavior of the nic.

The MAC-Address (HW-Info) is the final address to which packets are sent.
The NIC sends its MAC-Address, to the DHCP-Server and expects the TCP/IP-Configuration and normally the DHCP-Server sends the configuration data to the nic identified by the MAC-Address.

I think, that the DHCP-Server assigns only IP-Numbers to certain (configured) NICS, so the admin can controll the PCs accessing the network.

So imo the only way to regain access to the network is talking to the admin.

HTH

or stealing a mac adress by going to one of the friends in your network opening up a windows console with
start->run->cmd and writing there ipconfig /all and then writing yourself on a piece o paper
the mac.
then you go to your computer and just change your netcards mac.
its not orthodox but it can be done...
