Post Madwifi Set up

Hello,

It's time for me to post. I have recently acquired a D-Link AirPlus DWL-G650 network card. I am trying to install it on Redhat 9 on my laptop. I have updated the PCMCIA side of things and have got all the compiling packages. I am falling to pieces. I am still a newbie, I mostly use windoze.... (sorry), but I like Redhat as it rocks... Anyway I have been searching on the internet, I have found pieces of information on how to install but this all assumes that everything will go ok. Unfortuntely when i try to make the installation, I get the following: -

[root@localhost madwifi]# make
for i in ./ath_hal ath_rate/onoe ./net80211 ./ath; do \
(cd $i; make) || exit 1; \
done
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/rob/madwifi/ath_hal'
make -C /lib/modules/2.4.20-8/build SUBDIRS=/home/rob/madwifi/ath_hal modules
make[2]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-8'
make -r -f tmp_include_depends all
make[3]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-8'
touch: creating `/usr/src/build/231485-i386/install/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-8/fs/jfs/jfs_debug.h': No such file or directory
make[3]: *** [/usr/src/build/231485-i386/install/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-8/fs/jfs/jfs_debug.h] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-8'
make[2]: *** [tmp_include_depends] Error 2
make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-8'
make[1]: *** [all] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/rob/madwifi/ath_hal'
make: *** [all] Error 1

Then it goes back to root@localhost...

I can'f find anything on the web that will help me. I have literally just installed redhat 9 a few hours ago.

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? I wish there was better efforts from driver manufacturers to support linux!

Thanks

depmod*** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.20-8/net/wlan_wep.o

What is that?

AHHH im pulling my hair out!

Is your depmod problem a warning or an error ? Are you able to modprobe ath_pci without any problems? Have you thought of upgrading the kernel and the kernel-source? The depmod problem that the madwifi driiver is giving you may not happen in the new kernel.

I had the same problem in RedHat 9
Hope this helps

Hi there I eventually decided to upgrade to Fedora Core 2. I recompiled the kernel and set it all up and hey presto! I have a working wireless card! I beleive in redhat 9 that there was a problem with the IRQ assigned to the ATH device.
