MAC-forced forwarding/local proxy arp in linux?
I have searched and searched, but i cant find any about this.
i need to do MAC-forced forwarding, or local proxy arp in linux. here is the scenario.
an atm/ethernet bridge that is a dslam for dsl service is connected to the router interface. the router is a cisco running ios version 12.1 which is before ip local-proxy-arp was implemented. because of the way broadcasts work, arp requests from the customers are pushed out the ethernet interface on the dslam and to the router where the router drops the requests cause they arent intended for it.
with MAC-forced forwarding/ip local-proxy-arp, the router would respond for the host and forward traffic to the host.
i do not believe proxy-arp is the same thing.. as proxy-arp should only query the other interfaces on the same network, but i need this to happen on the same interface and not on the other interfaces.
i know this is alittle confusing, but this is how it is.
anyone know of an implementation?

Dude... biggest bump in internet history. You should probably post a new question, since this isnt really on the topic... and my post never got a response.

How did you solve this issue , how did you implement ?

well... looking back at my post, i described 2 different things, the issue and the solution. The need is a same interface proxy arp, to fix the issues of host-to-host communication in a network that uses either mac forced forwarding, private vlan communities, atm to ethernet, or any other setup that doesnt allow it.
No, i never found a solution in linux. Many many switches support it. there might be other ways to implement a similar function... but first, why dont you go ahead and describe your issues exactly and we can decide if you need a new post or if we can discuss here.
