MAC address shows up as " " , can Vmware cause this?

Hey Guys,

My MAC address shows up as " "??? Any idea what could be wrong, this happened
last night. I have an Win2k/Linux dual boot configuration. From Win2k I ran Vmware
to run Linux on top of Win2k. With Vmware you can specify a virtual MAC address
of your host system (in this case Linux). I tried setting the MAC address
through Vmware and lost my MAC address, I have removed the MAC address entry
in my Vmware configuration file.

Now when I use the flexlm utility lmhostid it returns " "?
So my question is how do I reset/reacquire my MAC address?
Thanks in advance.
