Question MAC address

In some of the hardware based firewall I found that they provide options for adding hosts of network by IP as well as by MAC.......... My question is what is the need to point particular host with MAC rather than IP???

Host NICs can have multiple IPs assigned to it. By referencing the MAC, a rule can address all the IPs assigned to that NIC.
