LTSP client mouse not functioning

I set up a linux client using the Linux Terminal Service Project, it's a P11 266 but it only has a serial port for the mouse, the settings in the LTSP server are:
X_mouse_protocol ="ps2"
x_mouse_device= /dev/ttyS0

These settings work when I boot the PC up with the hard drive using slackware so I don't see why these settings wont work as a terminal.

I've tried protocol="microsoft"...
and ttyS1,2...
nothing works, any ideas?
