Loss of network connection

Dear Linux users and experts,

I have got a RedHat linux machine which was connected to other debian machine through a network switch. Due to some reasons, i had to disconnect the Redhat machine for a while. Now, when I am trying to make the same connection as before, it is not responding at all. I am really new to networking and don't know what to do next.

I will be grateful if anyone can guide me to what could be happening here?

Thanks very much.

Urmi

Open a konsole, and as root run the command 'ifconfig eth0 up' and see what happens.

That will activate your hardwired ethernet card, called eth0.

If that doesn't get you going, run the command 'ifconfig' and post the results here.

All commands without the single quotes, just what is between the quotes...
