Unhappy Losing Domain secret

hi all,

I am using a dualboot installation on my machine with Windows XP pro, and Mandrake Linux 9.1
Both are configured for Domain logon to my Mitel E-smith 5.6 server.(e-smith.org)

my problem:
If i boot into linux after using windows(after login), My winbind secret, samba passwd, is bad. And i need to reconnect to my domain on the E-smith server.
if i boot into windows after using mandrake, windows doesn;t recognize the Domain user. Just like in linux happens.

note:
*login into windows after windows is no problem, or back into linux after using linux neither.

*i have the same problems with e-smith 5.5, mandrake 9.0, or windows 2000. It doesn't matter which ones i use.

Does someone know how to solve this problem,
i am using standard installations
(except for windows XP, it needs the regedit in order to work with e-smith domain logon)

grtz. Johan

The machine account password is maintained automatically and is constantly changing (maybe not constantly, but it does not stay after a reboot).

When a domain client (Let's say, Linux) boots it sets a password for the machine account. 'Dogs' lets say. Linux reboots and chooses a new password, 'Cats'. You boot into Windows and it tries 'Corkscrew', which last it knew was correct. Access Denied it gets. As far as the domain controller's machine account database knows, the password is still 'Cats' as last assigned by Linux. So you rejoin the domain in windows and it sets the machine account password to 'I_Love_Bill_Gates_4EVR'. You reboot windows and it picks a new password, 'I_Love_Bill_Gates_5EVR'. Then you boot into Linux and it tries 'Cats', and get access denied. You become frustrated and go to linuxquestions.org for assistance.

I hope this sheds light on you problem. You are, in essence, using a single machine account for 'two' machines and the password syncing isn't working because the 'two' systems aren't sharing (and shouldn't be- otherwise two phyiscally different systems on the network could join the domain using the same password and create a giant mess).

I hope this helps.
