looking for a 10/100 pci network card for my hp pavillion desktop
i just recently got broadband connection at home, and i have an old hp desktop i turned into a linux machine...ive had some trouble with it but i enjoy linux and want to learn it a little better....i think if this computer is on a network with an internet connection it would be a lot nicer....i am wondering what the best 10/100 pci networking card would be....i would like to know if one of the new models works...i have learned that the newer wireless cards for laptops dont work...had to buy an older orinico but if i have to do that for a 10/100 card i will...i would just like to know what brand and model number card i need that will work the best with suse 9.0 professional .....thanks alot

Anything with a Realtek 8139 chip in it'll work well. Lotsa work has been done on the driver and it works in duplex, which is nice. They're cheap too!

OMFG NOOOOOOOOO! DO NOT BUY A REALTEK BASED CARD!!!
Realtek makes horrible chipsets that off-load a lot of the work to your CPU. They have pathetic bandwidth, etc, etc...
The top three are (in order)
Intel (82559 chipset if at all possible)
3COM
Linksys
Avoid anything else like the plague. Most of the cheap cards are built on Realtek or National Semiconductor chipsets and they're horrible. If you look on pricewatch.com, you can find an Intel 82559 for less than $20. It's well worth it.
