Question login server for multiple Linux boxes?

I am in the process of setting up an LTSP box to pump info out to terminals. I have the server up and running, but I'd like to use an existing Linux server as the login server. Any idea how this is done? I think I need to use NFS, but I don't know for sure.

Also, I'd like to be able to give users access to their home directories on the X-terminals (currently accessed thru samba). Do I map drives with NFS, or something else?

Any help is appreciated!

NIS for unified logins.
NFS for shared home directories.
