logging to vsftpd as root

hi, i am running my ftp server with vsftpd in fedora 4, but when i try log as root the login fails cause i dont have permission to log as root.

i tried removing the user root from the file /etc/vsftpd.ftpusers but i still cant connect as root

how do i get to log on to vsftp as root?
