logged in own ftp server but commands dont work

I've installed a proftpd on a server.
It worked ok,it allowed connections from users of the
machine and they could see the contents of their home
directories in ftp and copy/delete/put stuff on it
until a day ago or something like that when I am trying
to log on and I'm getting the following:
Code:
spx2@firepower:~$ ftp someip 21
Connected to someip.
220 ProFTPD 1.3.0 Server (FIREPOWER) [192.168.1.3]
Name (someip:spx2): spx2
331 Password required for spx2.
Password:
230-Hi, and welcome into the dark woods.
230-Don't do stupid things and you will know no problems.
230-The logs are monitored automatically so be careful what you do.
230-You don't want problems.
230 User spx2 logged in.
Remote system type is UNIX.
Using binary mode to transfer files.
ftp> ls
500 Illegal PORT command
ftp: bind: Address already in use
ftp>
I have googled for this error message and I see that
other people have had similar problems but I haven't found
a solution.

Try passive

Try entering "passive" mode. I've seen this help before when I had a similar problem.

Whoops! I didn't scroll down the whole message. I didn't see you were having network issues. I don't think passive will help here.

Sorry...

ok,
I've read these two and I've sorted out the problem
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...0+illegal+port
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...ght=proftp+nat
I had to write a directive MasquaradeAddress <ip_of_server> in the proftpd.conf to make it work
properly and also PassivePorts
