LISa setup for network browsing using konqueror

Anybody knows that Konqueror in KDE 3.1.1 can do share access graphically instead of using smbclient in command line?

For that SuSE Linux 8.1 requires: samba-client, kdenetwork3-lisa, kdenetwork3-lan, and kdebase3-samba ;-)

kdenetwork3-lisa and kdenetwork3-lan provide plug-ins for Konqueror to allow convenient access to windows shares.

Anybody try this? How to setup LISa to do this?

In SuSE 8.1 I use KDE 3.1.1 Control Center -> Local Network Browsing
After that, entering

smb://mywindowsmachine/

reveals the shared docs, printer, etc :-)


Anybody try that? This is so much better than using LinNeighborhood!

Ive been stuck with some things Ive seen other people are having a hard time with as well..

I want comfort sharing files, since I use this a LOT. I dont really want to go to console every time I want to use a fileshare. Now konqueror claims to do it all graphically, which would make me a VERY happy man :D
However, Ive so far gotten neither my own file sharing to work this way, or reaching other people's fileshares..

When I use smb://[ip adress]/ I get a list of shares.. But when I click one of them, the gear starts to turn, but nothing happens..
(ive seen another post describing the same thing)

Then there's sharing my own things, in konqueror I can rightclick on a folder and see its properties.. It has a tab called 'Local Net Sharing'.. But when I click it, it tells me:
"Error running 'filesharelist'. Check if installed and in $PATH or /usr/sbin."

And then, there's LISa, which is what this thread is about.. Looks like a wonderful solution to filesharing in a workgroup.. But It doesnt give me any fileshares.. I did get it to find some people in my group (Though they were displayed by hostname, instead of computer name, but thats not a big prob of course ;)).. But once again, thats where it ended.. I couldnt actually reach any of their shares..

True, LinNeighborhood will probably work, but its still a 3rd party, which I hoped wouldnt be necessary with all these nice new tools.. :)

If you have ANY answers to any of these questions.. I would really love to hear them..

Lisa always worked for me in redhat, I have switched to mandrake 9.1 and like it, except for the fact that I have the same problem with lisa in Mandrake.

I agree lisa is a very nice utility, I have tried everything, but haven't found much usefull information about it, other then config info. My configuration is correct as far as I know, as it always worked in redhat.

I wish someone knew why this is happening.

Edit the /etc/lisarc
Restart the lisa service

Under Lan Browser in Konqueror all the SMB's are now browse able. No more need to diddle about with smbmount :D

I got lisa to working, I'm sort of a newb to Linux/Win networking, but I got samba running, and I got Lisa partially running, here's my problem.

I can browse the network from my linux box(mandrake 9.1), but when I access a shared directory, it doesn't show any of the files that are in it. any suggestions?

and anybody got an idea how to make lisa load at boot in a script?

first of all...i would like to thank aherm for originally posting this beautiful thread...this has kinda helped me out with my LISa questions (see "LISa in RH 9" ...if you would please check to make sure i'm ok on that)...
second of all...Logic...you can edit LISa into the boot file...but...i think (and i might be wrong) to get ur shares up automatically is with automount...which from what i've heard...doesn't like to work all the time...

I have a computer with 2 physical HD. The boot drive is Linux RH 9.0. The secondary drive is my data drive which I would like to see from 2 other PCs with XP Pro on them.
I have followed the instructions on another thread and downloaded a RPM to mount my physical drive (NTFS Format).
My problem is, that even though I can see/browse the physical drive can not get write permission to it.
My mount point is /mnt/windows.
I have tried umask 0222 or umask 0777 or umask 0666 or umask 0000 and none has worked. I can see different combination would make a difference. However when I login as SU and launch KONQUREROR and try to change the file permissions by going to properties I get >>filesharelist<< error while there is an error displayed on the last tab about NETWORK SHARE (while in the properties).
Can someone help me. My modifications of umask are done in /etc/fstab.

NTFS has limited support due to the nature of NTFS structure.

Which also means that it is only read-only. You can re-compile your kernel to allow writing to NTFS partitions, but this can destroy your partition beyond repair.

The only other way to get your NTFS drive mounted and writable is via SAMBA from another machine.
