LISa can't see computer names

I'm kind of a noob here using slackware 10.1. I searched and found many posts relating to LISa problems but but none exactly like this. I am trying to connect to a winxp computer with a simple wired network through a router with 3 computers.

I have been trying to figure out why LISa won't work even after the the service is started. I went throught the guided setup again and this time selected the option to show computers that don't have names. Now LISa works (!) but I can only browse computers by their ip address.

I have samba running and I can go to a computer by typing smb:/computername in the konqueror address bar but not if I type lan:/computername

The browser path to a shared folder looks something like this:
lan:/192.168.0.103/smb/shared documents

So how do I get LISa to display the computer names and not just ip addresses?

And what's with the extra /smb folder?

Your best bet it to install Winbind, which will resolve Windows hostnames using Netbios broadcast lookups and/or WINS. Once you have it installed, change the hosts line in your /etc/nsswitch.conf to read:

hosts: files dns wins

You don't have to run a WINS server, but it does help cut down on network traffic.
