linuxant driver, possible DNS problem???

hey everyone

I thought I would find the answer to this just by searching the forums, but no luck. so here is my problem:

A few months ago, while using RH9 with kernel 2.6.3, I decided to pay for the Linuxant drivers for my HSF softmodem. They compiled fine and the modules would insert just fine, but I noticed that -MOST- web sites were inaccessible. If I login to my school UNIX account and find the IP, I can get to it, which means its DNS. Luckily, linuxquestions.org works :-) Also, the domains that I cant get to are different every time. I have never had trouble signing onto AIM, but tonight I couldnt. I have only dialed up using this modem < 10 times, because I am usually at school but I am home for a week now and need to get this working right.

Another big problem is that I cannot insert the modules for the modem after switching to gentoo, kernel 2.6.5. My only guess here is it is something different in the kernel, but I need to know how to fix it. When i do "modprobe /dev/ttySHSF0", there is a lot of hdd activity and it waits forever, and gives a few messages about roblems instering some module, and then stays going. It gave a few similar messages the last time I waited 10 min to see what it would do. usually i just push the power button, the computer is unusable. Here is a piece of my /var/log/messages that i think contains useful info for anyone who might be able to help:

May 3 23:16:54 reagan kernel: hsfpcibasic2: Unknown symbol cnxthsf_cnxt_serial_add
May 3 23:16:54 reagan kernel: hsfpcibasic2: Unknown symbol cnxthsf_cnxt_serial_remove
May 3 23:17:06 reagan kernel: hsfpcibasic2: Unknown symbol cnxthsf_cnxt_serial_add
May 3 23:17:06 reagan kernel: hsfpcibasic2: Unknown symbol cnxthsf_cnxt_serial_remove

I think that these are all of the important ones, but I just used grep to get these, dont have tie right now to look more. if I dont get any useful replies tomorrow and I find anything else useful I will post it here.

The way I get the drivers working is to run hsfconfig again and rebuild them every time.

And, I'm sorry for all the grammar mistakes and stuff. I'm going to bed....
