Linux - Xp crosslink cable problems with samba

Hi there!

I'am trying to download some stuff from my Linux Fedora Core 4 laptop to my XP desktop using a ethernet crosslink cable... after a few attemps with no connectivity i managed to configure both pc's with lan and the no connectivity was gone ... but then and with SAMBA working and the linux share in the XP My network places .... the problem is that when i try to enter it -> "The Network path was not found" !! i can't express how i hate when that appends!

XP ipconfig:

Ip Adrs 169.254.84.88
Subnet mask 255.255.0.0
Default gateway 169.254.255.254
Dns 169.254.0.1

Fedora ifconfig :
Ip Adrs 169.254.84.89
Subnet mask 255.255.0.0
Default gateway 169.254.255.254
Dns 169.254.0.1

/etc/samba/smb.conf :
[global]
workgroup = HOME

[dump]
path = /dump
read only = no
guest ok = yes

... yeah i tryed to get samba config at to a minimum to see if it worked ... not getting it right proplably...

The share is a directory and i what full access in the XP ... so any help on this?

ps: XP firewall IS off

Thanks !

I'm missing something. If each box has one nic card and you are using a crossover cable; why do you have a default gateway and/or a DNS?
