Linux to Windows crossover ethernet networking

Alright, I managed to get two windows boxes networked with a crossover just fine. Now I'm to the reason I bought the cable in the first place.

I have a ~100ft cable that connects my linux box to my router. Rather than having to run another cable to the exact same place for my windows box, I plan on using a crossover from one pc to the next.

My question is, how? Assuming I don't need to do anything different on the windows pc, I can get that part fine. What all do I need to do on (gentoo) linux?

I need more than file sharing--the point is to get the internet from one to the other.

Uhm.. Thanks, but I really don't even know where to start. I don't think I can just plug in the cable and have it work, can I?

are you wanting to network them?

or

are you just wanting them both to have internet access?

if you want internet access, just buy a $10 switch and plug it into the 100ft cable then two short cables to each system. Then of course you can still network them too.

Er.. switch. As in a switch that you can flip from one to the other? Or a switch that automatically sends the correct signals to and from the router for each machine?

Here's my setup (if I'm not mistaken). The Broadband box may go right through the router and the first windows box be on the network like the rest, but I really don't know--not my computer.

Code:
[Broadband box]----[Windows Box]----[Router]
                                     /    \
                  patch ethernet -> /      \ <- wireless
                                   /        \
                          [Linux Box]      [Windows Laptop]

                          [Windows Box]
The windows box is right next to the linux box--as in a foot from it. Right now I've got a crummy usb wireless thing on it that almost works. :P What I need to do is hook up my crossover cable between the two. In other words, to make it like this:

Code:
[Broadband box]----[Windows Box]----[Router]
                                     /    \
                  patch ethernet -> /      \ <- wireless
                                   /        \
                          [Linux Box]      [Windows Laptop]
                             |
       crossover ethernet -> |
                             |
                          [Windows Box]
The important part is getting the internet from the Linux Box to the Windows Box (using a crossover cable). I assume that to do that they'd end up networked--which is a plus.

I already have an existing Windows network. So, in summary, I need to figure out how to...

- link the second Windows Box to the Linux Box using a crossover ethernet cable

- from that, 'transfer the internet' to the Windows Box

- if possible, add my Linux Box in some way to my existing Windows Network (or in some way make it accessible). This step really isn't as important, though.

I really don't even know where to start. ..Well, besides plugging the cable in, that is. :P

Thanks for your help.

No he means like this -

Code:
[Broadband box]----[Windows Box]----[Router]
                                     /    \
                  patch ethernet -> /      \ <- wireless
                                   /        \
                          [Lan Switch]      [Windows Laptop]
                             /    \
        ethernet patches -> /      \
                           /        \
                  [Linux Box]     [Windows Box]
The Lan Switch allows both machines to access the lan simultaneously. Much simpler to set up than what you are talking about.
