I am using debian through windows by VMPlayer......... My windows proxy is 10.10.136.88

I can access internet through windows...... But I cant do so through Linux..... Do I need to set up proxy settings with Linux??? For that proxy IP???

Hi,

Change the VMware network settings to bridge not to host or nat.
And use the same proxy setting as in Windows.

If the network in VMware is bridged that means your VM-machine ¨plugged¨ into the network as you connect a computer into a switch.

Under Windows there is no problem to change the ¨running¨ VMware machine´s network controller to bridge function.

But Iḿ not sure about the player if the bridging function is not working then use the VMware workstation or server both are free.(Linux/Windows) http://www.vmware.com/download/server/

I hope it helped.

I found three interfaces configured by clicking on devices

There were three options Network Adapter, Network adepter 2, Network adapter 3........

I chose Bridged for all of them

And again tried by praying almighty that it will get succeed.........

But all in vain

Disable the second/third adapters then use the first one ¨Automatically obtain IP address settings with DHCP¨ this will setup the proper IP settings (default gateway and IP/subnet)

After this just setup the proxy settings.

If you have Windows proxy it is going to be IP: 10.10.136.88 and Port: 8080(default ISA server address)

If you have Linux squid proxy it is going to be IP: 10.10.136.88 and Port: 3128(Default squid address)

But you should check your configuration under Windows to be sure about the proper address/port.

I think in your case the three adapters have different subnets and gateways and the default route to reach the Internet is not properly configured. That is why you need to disable the another two to figure that out what wrong is.

You can find under system/preferences ¨Network Proxy¨ this is the proxy coniguration for your virtual box.

Set it up and your vmmachine will be able to communicate for the outside world.
