Hello everyone,
At work we have changed how our computers are routed to the internet and I have been unable to apply the changes to my Xandros OS.I am running a dual boot OS setup W2000 and Xandros 2.0 and we are now required to have a network access or MAC code in order for the router to allow us access to the net. I have my code and have set up my Inet connection through W2000 but don't know how to do the same with Xandros.
Have been using Xandros almost exclusively since I set up the dual boot and do not want to go back to W2000. Can anyone help a Linux newb?
Thanks

Hi Ppuru,
Thanks for responding to my Q. I think it is a MAC address. To change it on my W2000 OS I went to Network & Dial-upconnections >Local area network>Properties> Configure(The Ethernet Card)> Advanced> then I highlighted Network address and under the Value section I unchecked "Not Present" and Checked the circle to manually put in a value...where I put in the MAC Code or Address(?).It's a code we're using to control who has access to our router.I don't know if that is enough info or not.
Thanks ppuru
I tried that at first it didn't recognize the" ip" command but I found that the" if"command is used for some network troubleshooting (ex ifconfig) so I used your command code with "if" instead. That just gave me a > prompt but I think that may be because I typed in the mac address as xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx rather than xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx The reason I think this is because while trying to get the command to work I typed in ifconfig and it gave me my ethernet card's MAC in the format xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx. Since I know had this number I gave it to the tech to get this card accepted by the router.Had fun trying all this out. Thx for your help! P.S. the command you gave me" #if link set dev eth0 address" was that to change my ethernets card MAC?
the ip command belongs to the iproute2 package. if is an iterator in shell scripts - it has nothing to do with commands like ifconfig, ifup, ifdown etc.
Thx ppuru,
I got my ethernet cards actual MAC accepted by the router (once I found it out by using the ifconfig command) so my problem has been solved.
Thanks again for your help
