I have a RH 9 server that has SAMBA running. All of the Windows workstations sees the shares and everything is fine. Now, I want to add several Linux workstations. Do these connect through SAMBA too. Also, Windows machines have name (RED, BLUE, FISH) but Linux machines don't appear to. How can I share files between two Linux workstations if I can't identify the machine I am trying to connect to?
As you can tell, I am a Windows guy. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You can connect them through samba if you wish. You may have minor issues with file permissions depending on what you want to do, windows does not have "executable" flags on files for example.
Machines using NFS complain a lot if the NFS server goes away so I use samba between linux machines at home.
