Question Linux netowrk questions

I'm VERY new to the networking side of linux and have only played around with linux overall very limited. I've been tasked with building a network firewall, and know that I've thus far done alright, because the machine still boots and has internet access, plus it can ping out and be pinged. My question is though, is there anything that acts like "Network Neighborhood" as in Microsux's Windows?? I've tried to config SAMBA, but not having much luck, as how do you turn off the power management??? All help is welcomed!!! Thanks

SaMBa IS this fundamental equivalent of the Netwrok Neighbourhood, and once you understand it a buit, it MUCH MUCH MUCH better than the windows counterpart. There are programs liek LinNeighborhood which can be used to give a graphical front end liek in explorer in win*ARSE*dows.

Power management is in the bios.

And Samba is the only way to go.

If you are not comfortable with the smb.conf file try to use swat.
