My company recently moved and we are working out the bugs. Besides changing our IPs (we switched ISPs) we also got a larger block (so the subnet mask has changed). I have been trying to get our ftp working on our LInux 7.3 box and have been haveing some problems. I can ftp to the machine outside of our LAN but not within our LAN. The IP of this Linux box (that is trying to host the ftp) has also changed (it sits on the DMZ). I am new to these kinds of Linux problems, and need some help. Is there a config file for ftp that would allow those inside our LAN as well as those outside of the network to access the machine?
Some bits of info that may help to find the problem. We use wu-ftpd and I have restarted xinietd.d to be sure that the daemon is running. I can ping the machine inside the network as well as actually access it by Samba. I get the same problem when I try to ftp with either the machine's IP or name.
I am sorry. It turns out that I can not actually ftp from outside the LAN either. I get "unknown error number" this occurs after it sits and spins trying to connect via the domain name.
I can not telnet on that machine. The telnet process is turned off. The strange thing is that the ftp worked before the move. The only thing that changed is the IP of the machine (we switched ISPs - so the IP of the DMZ where the machine sits is different) and the netblock is larger (our mask moved from 255.255.255.0 to 255.255.254.0). The wu-ftpd process is running and the ftp still won't work.
(our mask moved from 255.255.255.0 to 255.255.254.0
make sure all the machines on that subnet also changed to .254.0 because that changes the "broadcast address" and also some really old software may just choke on non standard subnets ie anything not 255.0.0.0 or 255.255.0.0 or 255.255.255.0.
