Linux files invisible to windows computers

I have a Fedora 10 Linux machine that runs a samba server. We had someone who knows a lot more about linux than me set up the computer and server. however I have been learning a lot through the process. Anyway we have several windows computers on a windows network that includes the Linux machine (all connected by cat5 cable) and we were able to see the files and folders on the linux machine (from the windows side) for quite a while. My boss wanted to start backing up the server and so I installed backintime. good software but it seemed to reset the permissions on the folders and files. I reset permissions to be rwx for everyone. I made sure that all the computers were in the right groups. made sure that the right group owned the right files, and for some reason all the windows machines can see the file folders but they cant see any of the files. (looking with "my network places")

the only weird thing about this is that we have a wireless network set up next door from the office at my house (connected to our main router via cat5)and anyone on that wireless network can see all the files. the router over at my house is just extending the network from the main router and I have tried resetting that. I have also tried restarting the Linux and windows machines.

Please let me know if you have any Idea of what is happening!

thank you
