Linux as a network CLIENT
Does anybody know how to join a Windows 2000 domain using Red Hat 9 as the client machine? (I know, Linux is usually the server, but I want to join a pre-existing Windows 2000 domain)

Try samba

I know NOTHING about Linux networking, I need more info than that...I've been trying to figure out Samba by experimentation, and all I can do is add shares for Windows clients to access my Linux box, but what I want to do is join an existing Windows 2000 domain.

EDIT: BTW, I need to be able to do this without accessing the internet; The proxy server for my LAN is a winproxy, and it will not allow connections from the Linux box.

try the program Webmin. it is a gui based program. assuming you have samba installed web into webmin go to system, disk and file system and then mount windows networking (smbfs). i believe however this puts your username and password in etc\fstab in plain text. but it should get you connected to your windows share. then if you want to know what exactly happened go to your smb.conf file and figure out why this worked.
