Linux and Windows: Lan

Hello everyone!
I'm trying to set up a lan between this computer and my sister's pc.

This pc mount Debian 3.1 and to this pc is plugged an usb modem.
My sister's pc mount Windows XP Pro.

In Windows I setted up this pc with 192.168.0.1 as manual address for lan and i configured my sister's pc to obtain her IP from dhcp.

Now in Linux i don't know if set up both pc with a static IP and configure rightely linux or configure rightely linux and put "automatically retrieve IP from LAN" on my sister's pc.

Please answer me early

Thx a lot.
