Linux and PC in home network via BT router without internet
 
I used to have my pc and server(home website development) in a network connected to the internet through a BT router, now I don't have the internet due to moving house, but will the network still work if I can get the router back and no internet?

you won't be using the router in the first place. You'll be using the switch in the device and routing nothing. So yes, it will work fine between those machines.

Oh right, so should it work with just a switch? I tried one my friend had spare(netgear FS605) and didn't work. I'm running win7 on my pc and ubuntu 10.04 on my server. The switch came up as unidentified network on the pc network and charing centre and I wasn't sure what to do to get it working.

Well the only thing that would be possibly missing is DHCP, which a £5 switch wouldn't provide. Static addresses would sort that out.

Should work even if you use a patch or crossover cable between the two.

But, yes, you network settings are off.
