linux and Hotels

I have a dual boot (win2k and SuSE Linux 9.2) laptop which I use when I travel. When I try to connect to the internet via the broadband in my Hotel room, with Linux, it is either extremely slow or will not connect at all. The same PC with win2k booted works fine. Obviously I'm configured for DHCP etc. I experience this at 90 % of the Hotels I stay in. Anyone else run into this and know of circumvention?

I haven't experienced it myself, but have you tried sniffing your network connection (tcpdump or tethereal) to see if your link's being saturated with any particular traffic?

Was in a Days Inn a few months ago, armed with my laptop. Noticed that the free highspeed internet required you to a) plug in, b) go to google.com c) get redirected to some hotel page where you had to agree to some conditions etc.

When I booted up my laptop, my box couldnt get an IP number, so no go on steps b onwards. Luckily I have a working modem so I just dialed out.

Would have liked to know a work around at the time
