Linux and Active Directory

Hi,

I'm testing integrating Linux into my AD network to allow single sign on to either Linux or Windows using AD credentials. I've followed some tutorials on using LDAP authentication via the pam_ldap and nss_ldap modules but they don't seem to work.

I've tried configuring my SuSE Professional 9.1 client using Kerberos but the result wasn't good. The user had to exist in both AD and /etc/passwd to be able to login using AD credentials. It did however allow to my change passwords from the Linux system and have it update in AD.

I also tried using SAMBA and winbind to login which works but I can't seem to change passwords from the Linux system as I just get an error message about some authentication system not being supported after typing passwd.

Can anyone help me out on how to get this to work?

I bought the book: the Official Samba 3 HOWTO Guide. It talks about using LDAP and Kerberos in some detail. You might want to check that out.
