Linux 2 Linux samba slow
Interesting quirk...
Ive set up a samba server to host some common files on a small network. Windows client machines seem to pick up the directories and file listings (there are lots of small files) quickly. Linux machines accessing these same shares take ages to show the listings. I know this isn't normal; whats the problem??? Thx |
It can depend on the programme you are using to look at the shares..
try smbclient -L name in a command line and compare the speed.. |

Okay i did that - thanks..! but here's the thing: when using gnome, i clik on computer, then network. It finds the server okay. but when i attempt to click on directories containing many files, it hangs for awhile. It has always been this way. Once the listing is found, there's no trouble with pulling up files, etc. Seems like this is not right. looking for addit'l help. |
