Linmodem Problem

I have a linmodem that is not "compatible", what i mean is, it errors and obviously I need to invest in a different modem, Im not too keen on networking so if anyone can recommend a decent pci modem that would work with mandrake 9.2 or if anyone could give me some advice on how to solve this, i would appreciate it. thanks in advance, sam
