hi, morgolis! i have set all of the computers with static ip addresses with the fourth set of numbers in their dotted quad notation being 20 for computer number one and 25 for computer number two and 30 for computer number three and so on (and I let the router assign the ip address to the playstation and the router is set to start to assign ip addresses to clients beginning at
192.168.1.100).....the router is about two years old and we've had this problem of disconnects since be bought it in 2004....sometimes the playstation will lag very badly and its (R) receiving signal will go down to (0) zero for about 3 seconds and then go back up to about 120 for a few seconds and then go back down to (0) zero again and continue on with this pattern for about 5 or 10 minutes and will eventually correct itself and then will keep a receiving (R) signal of about 120 to 360 or more until the next time the problem occurs, which might be 5 minutes or 5 hours from the last lag (when the (R)receiving signal goes to zero, the (S)sending signal never drops from its status quo but remains as strong as it was before the lagging problem occured and seems to not be affected by the lagging of the (R) receive signal....i have not learned how to set the static ip address for the playstation yet but as soon as i do learn, ui'll set its ip static also....AAAKKNICE

How old of a Linksys is that router? Do you have to power-cycle the linksys to get things to work again? If so, i'm willing to bet that you have an older linksys and need to update the kernel from Linksys. I remember hearing of similar problems a long time ago, but when linksys shut off their external management port access and updated the kernel the problems went away. Also, i seem to remember the older linksys routers had issues w/ DHCP so if you are getting your IP addresses via DHCP and it's a older linksys, try setting your IP addresses statically on your local network.

i will take a shot in dark - what about nic speed ? is it different on all or is it same - if you know.

make sure dhcp is "disabled"
I belv subnet used is same on all the computers.
make sure computers are ser for the 10 mb half duplex.

btw have you ever monitored you internet connection say - whats the speed - upload and download speeds - Any speed change during day/night.
and what if - it remains conencted for few hours and then if you check speed - does it remains same or downgrades because isp server may detects idle/low traffic.

and are you configuring this router for any other settings like gateway routing etc/changing ports/firewall settings/fiddling with udp settings/mtu etc.

any possiblity that any of computers may have virus.

because if this all fails - I suggest using a switch if your cable mode has routing facility.
If possible try flashing your cable modem.
