Hi. I'm trying to set up my own apache server. All is well with the server until I have to go through my Linksys router. Whenever I try to connect to my public IP address, I get sent to my router's config page. I found out that I needed to use port forwarding.
I configured my computer (the one running the apache server) with a static IP address (192.168.1.10) and I forwarded port 80 to that address (192.168.1.10)
However, I still come upon my router's configuration page. My mind has been boggled.
I am still running DHCP (I was told it didn't matter since the static address was below the DHCP scope) and all the other computers on my LAN are using a dynamic IP address.
That is really odd. Are you sure that you don't have a typo in the forwaded IP address? 192.168.1.10 is awfully close to 192.168.1.1. Also be sure that you've cleared your browsers cache. It could be the browser is pulling an old page from the cache rather than getting a new one. Even if you have remote management enabled, it is supposed to run on port 8080, not 80. I guess I'd check to make sure that remote management was off (and maybe even turn it on then off to make sure) and see if that clears up the problem. If that doesn't do it, I'd be seriously tempted to upgrade (or re-flash) the firmware.
I run a setup similar to yours in that I have a Slackware box at 192.168.1.95 and everything else connects by DHCP. I forward port 80 from the router to the Slackware box and it works without a hitch.
Hm... I upgraded the firmware which opened a whole ton of new options. Now when I access my public IP address, it doesn't connect to my router's configuration page - it doesn't connect at all.
Weird. Wild. Stuff.
Call me superstitious, but I even used 192.168.1.95 for my server's local IP address.
Is there an option on my router's config page that's preventing me from connecting through my public IP because I can connect to 192.168.1.95 and get my apache page.
Does your router have any NAT features, that is, it should redirect requests coming on port 80 of the WAN interface to your apache server. Can you post the model of your LinkSys router please.
I also have that problem. But i am using belkin 4 port router. So i stop using my router. Now i am using slackware 10.0 as my router. And running a webserver in it. Thats a better idea(i think). If u want to add more computers, buy some hubs.
I am not an expert. If u guys find a way to port forward to a computer inside a network, please mail me. My mail address is freestyler23x@blueyonder.co.uk . Good luck
