Linksys NC100 v2.0
Using RH 7.0
After doing a search, looks like alot of other people have had trouble with Linksys NIC's ? Ive got the NC100 v2.0, and am not having any luck. First off, I dont know what kernal module to select when using netconf and im not even sure if this card is compatible. Redhat's hardware compatiblilty section of their site is down at the moment.
Looks like ill be shopping for a new NIC unless I can find a driver ?

I have a different model linksys, it came with a driver, you may want to look on their website. However the newer distros do not require me to use their driver
They are LN100TX ver 4 I think
I have three of them in my router

This is what RadHat says about NC100
Kernel Module: tulip.o
This card requires the 0.92 version of the tulip driver, located here:
www.scyld.com/network/tulip.html
I am using NetGear FA310-TX with RedHat 7.1
It's working fine.
Thanks.

I have 7 of those cards spread out through various machines. They use the tulip driver, but for some deranged reason Linksys (er, Networkeverywhere), fiddles with the chipset every few months requiring Mr. Becker down at Nasa (okay, they got spun off into Scyld), to re-write the driver. Actually, the guy doing it now is Jeff Garzik, but there's no need to get ahead of myself.
Try: modprobe tulip.o
If that errors out, you're going to need to get fresher source and compile a new module.
To get it to compile, download all 4 of the files from the Scyld site that ssu4716 pinted out: pci-scan.c, pci-scan.h, kern_compat.h and tulip.c To find out what line to type to compile them, try :
tail pci-scan.c
after you type in the compile command, you should have a module called pci-scan.o. repeat this for tulip.c in order to get tulip.o. Then:
modprobe /directory_that_you_are_in/pci-scan.o
modprobe /directory_that_you_are_in/tulip.o
Then try ifconfig eth0 up to see if the card works. Honestly, if you can't get the module to just pop right in, it might not be worth fiddling with. Making these cards work under RedHat was my introductory Linux problem, and it took me a few months to sort out. Anything that runs on the rtl8139 chipset is going to pop right in and run straight off the bat (and they're the cheapest for quick and easy... ~$30). Or, if you can find a place to pick up used pci nics, grab anything 3Com.
Cheers,
Finegan
