Linksys BEFSR81 connected to Linux Router?

Ive got a linksys BEFSR81 router, and a linux box router. I need to know if theres a way to connect the 2 together. I tried but it doesnt work just connecting the two together. If anything it breaks the connection, and then nothing works at all...

modem----linux/router----BEFSR81

then connected to the linux/router would be a few PC's, as well as the BEFSR81 router, it has a few other PC's connected to it.
